Inmate Dies at Vanderburgh County Jail; Foul Play Not Suspected

File

An inmate has died at the Vanderburgh County Detention Center.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says 77-year-old William Conley Pease was found unresponsive in his cell at about midnight.

In a release, the sheriff’s office said a confinement officer assigned to the housing unit where the inmate was found immediately called for help.

Officers and medical staff administered CPR, and medics from the Evansville Fire Department and Scott Township assisted.

The sheriff’s office says medics ceased resuscitation efforts just before 1:00 a.m. upon orders of a St. Vincent Hospital physician.

Pease was last seen responsive and looking around his cell at 11:05 PM.

The Coroner's Office is expected to schedule an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The sheriff’s office said foul play was not suspected.

Pease had been incarcerated since February 2nd on a Parole Violation Warrant.
