I-69 bridge group to issue short list

Officials plan to present a short list of potential routes for an I-69 bridge later this month.

I-69 Ohio River Crossing has scheduled 2 open houses to present the short list, after issuing a list of 5 possible corridors in April.

A news release from the group says an extensive screening process is continuing, and the short list should be issued by the end of this month.

The first open house is set for Monday, July 31st, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Milestones on S. Cullen Avenue in Evansville.

The second open house is scheduled for the following evening, Tuesday August 1, at Henderson Community College on S. Green Street.

Henderson Area Rapid Transit will run a special free route between Third and Main streets and the open house that evening.

Each open house will include a presentation at 6 p.m.

The I-69 ORX team says it will continue to collect data and engineering analyses, with a preferred route expected by late 2018, and a record of decision by late 2019.

Cost estimates for the Evansville-to-Henderson bridge range from $850 million to $1.4 billion.

Officials on both sides of the river have said they’re open to tolls as a possible funding source.

The existing Twin Bridges would be maintained for local traffic.
