Evansville firefighters were called to 710 Maxwell Ave. at about 9:30 Wednesday night.
In a release, Division Chief Mike Larson said when crews arrived they found light smoke coming from the house.
After entering, the firefighters reported the fire had been extinguished by the resident, who poured water on the flames.
The damage was minimal and nobody was hurt, but an arson report was filed with Evansville Police.
