The planned implosion of the former Old National Bank tower in Downtown Evansville is less than two months away. WNIN’s John Gibson talked to a local real estate broker about the plan.
Philip R. Hooper works for Berkshire Hathaway Home Services. He’s also a former Metro Development Director for the city of Evansville.
He told WNIN that he has mixed feelings about the impending demolition of Evansville’s tallest building at 420 Main Street.
"I'm sad for the loss of the architecture. I'm sad for the loss of the history and people's memories there in that space. But I am tremendously excited for the impact it's going to have on the downtown neighborhood with that many more residents and that much more commercial space and a development that truly represents and respects the street from an urban planning perspective."
Domo Development is planning a six-story commercial and residential complex at the site.
The plan also requires the demolition of the nearby Sycamore Building.
Between now and November 21st, WNIN will speak with a variety of residents about memories of the tower and thoughts about its planned demise.
