Holtz to lead Parks Department

The city of Evansville has a new parks director.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke has promoted Brian Holtz to head-up the Department of Parks and Recreation. He’s been serving as Deputy Parks Director.

Winnecke says in a news release that Holtz has a “thorough knowledge” of the parks department, where he’s juggled various projects from fundraising to tree-planting.

For a dozen years, Holtz was executive director of Community Corrections for the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.

He’s also a past president of Big Brothers Big Sisters, and a licensed high school football and basketball official.

Holtz will oversee improvements and maintenance at more than 60 public park properties and will work with the Winnecke administration on developing Roberts Park.

He replaces Denise Johnson, who stepped down at the end of 2015.
