Gov. Holcomb buys 5 millionth Gibson County Toyota

John Gibson

Governor Eric Holcomb made a special purchase when he visited the Toyota plant in Gibson County Wednesday.

Holcomb visited Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana not only to help celebrate the plant’s 5 millionth vehicle, but to buy the SUV himself.

Holcomb told the crowd he was replacing his Toyota Sequoia, which has 200,000 miles on it…

(Been a lot of places with me and made a lot of memories but I confess to you right here, I’m looking forward to the new car smell”)

TMMI Plant President Millie Marshall announced a new effort called Power of 5, and presented checks to five area not-for-profits.

Speaking to reporters, Holcomb praised TMMI not only for its enormous economic impact, but for its corporate citizenship…

(“Even in the tough years when a lot of people were  stalling or halting production, Toyota was fanned out and spread out in the communities, doing volunteer work. They really do set a high bar.”)

TMMI employs 5300 workers – or “team members” – and plans to increase production of the Highlander in 2019 that will create up to 400 new jobs.

Holcomb touted Indiana’s economic efforts…

("Obviously we're one of the few states in the nation that has a AAA credit rating, a healthy reserve account -- almost 2 billion dollars -- we have low tax rates, reasonable and predictable regulatory environment.")

Holcomb and Marshall visited Toyota’s headquarters in Japan last week.
