Evansville Pools Closed for Summer

The city of Evansville will keep its swimming pools closed this summer.

Deputy Mayor Steve Schaefer said city pools, swim lessons, and related activities will be closed through the 2020 season.

He made the announcement during a Reopen Evansville Task Force update at the Rotary Club of Evansville meeting.

In a release, the city said the parks department saw a “substantial shortage” of certified lifeguards.

The department also reviewed the state’s guidelines and considered the health and safety of Evansville residents before finalizing the decision.

City pools that won’t open this summer include Hartke, Helfrich, Lloyd, Lorraine, Mosby, and Rochelle-Landers Pool.

The city is building a new indoor swimming complex in Garvin Park.
