Evansville Diocese Reports Decades-Old Case Of Child Abuse To Police

The Catholic Diocese of Evansville has informed police about an alleged case of child molestation that took place more than 45 years ago.

The diocesan victim assistance coordinator told police about the alleged incident Wednesday.

According to the police report, the victim was under the age of 14 at the time of the incident, which reportedly took place at Holy Spirit Catholic School.

EPD Sgt. Jason Cullum says the unnamed alleged perpetrator died in the late 1980s.

In an email, Cullum says the EPD doesn’t identify people who won’t be charged with a crime. He added that police won’t do anything else with the report.

The diocese says it has no comment.

There’s no word on whether the alleged perpetrator was a teacher or a member of the clergy, or how long the diocese knew about the accusation.
