Police say the death of a man whose body was found in a burning apartment was a homicide.
Evansville firefighters found the body of 41-year-old Gerard Elliott Matts in the abandoned building at Read and Michigan streets Sunday morning.
Based on an autopsy, investigators believe Matts was deceased before the fire started.
In an email, the EPD said Matts’ body was “severely burned.”
The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office hasn’t yet released the cause of death.
