EPD Identifies Officer Involved in Fatal Shooting

EPD

Evansville Police have released the identity of the officer who shot and killed a Wadesville man.

The EPD identified the officer as Mario Reid.

He joined the force in 2014 and is assigned to second shift motor patrol in the East Sector.

In a release, police said Reid is involved in community education programs at the Evansville African American Museum and took part in the Baptisttown Street Festival to improve relationships between officers and residents of the Fourth Ward.

Before joining the EPD, he was an after-school programming coordinator at the Carver Community Center.

Reid fatally shot 45-year-old Terry Chanley of Wadesville following a traffic crash near Morgan Avenue and Theater Drive Monday night.

Video of the confrontation shows Chanley refusing to follow the officer’s commands and picking up an object that turned out to be a hammer.

Multiple gunshots were fired.

Reid was placed on three days paid leave after the shooting, per department policy.

He also met with a mental health counselor.
