Two non-profits are partnering to improve mental health in the Evansville area.

Easterseals and Mental Health America of Vanderburgh County have announced a collaboration to address mental health issues facing children, young people, and families.

During a news conference at the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center, President and CEO Kelly Schneider told reporters many people need help.

"These are families whose son is about to be kicked-out of fifth grade due to behavior problems. It's the mother who wants to hug her son who may have autism and hear him say "I love you." It could be a family with a child contemplating suicide."

Mental Health America’s Erica Esche praised the new partnership.

"We believe this will carry forth the mission of M.H.A. in a more effective way with better resources at our disposal."

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke predicted more good news in the future.

"Because I know that a lot of mental health providers are working hand-in-hand, again collaboratively, to make sure we have better mental health."

Mental health issues are the focus of the Community Health Needs Assessment and Mayor Winnecke’s Task Force on Mental Health.
