Donation to Boost Nursing Program at UE

A multi-million dollar gift to a University of Evansville nursing scholarship program will increase financial aid possibilities to prospective nurses.

The Lucy Kelly Nursing Scholarship provides financial help to nursing students who demonstrate need and strong academic abilities.

Now, thanks to a $3.6 million dollar gift from the John B. and Lucille S. Kelly Trust, a nursing degree from UE’s Dunigan Family School of Nursing is more accessible.

In a statement from the University, Lucy Kelly, the scholarship’s namesake, graduated from the program in 1970 at age 46 and had a fulfilling career as a nurse at Welborn Baptist Hospital.

Out of concern for the nursing shortage and affordability of the degree, Lucy established the scholarship and included a gift to the University in her estate.

Applicants for the scholarship must be in the top twenty percent of their class and hold a B grade average.
