Five more COVID 19-related deaths have been reported in southwest Indiana.

The Indiana Department of Health added two fatalities in Vanderburgh County, two in Warrick County, and one in Spencer County on the Wednesday dashboard.

New infections also surged, with 189 in Vanderburgh and 64 in Warrick, possibly indicating some “catching up” in the data following a holiday weekend.

Vanderburgh’s seven-day positivity rate among individuals held steady at about 21 percent, while 118 more local residents joined the ranks of fully vaccinated and more than 500 received booster shots.

The number of hospitalized COVID patients in the 12-county region of southwest Indiana fell by one to 149.

Across Indiana, the agency recorded 32 more COVID-related deaths and more than 2,700 new infections.
