Among the changes, funding for small businesses and Mesker Zoo.

With councilman Jonathan Weaver being the lone “no” vote Monday evening, the Evansville City Council passed a finance ordinance to help city officials deal with, among other things, expenses and revenue shortfalls due to the pandemic.

Among the pandemic related items was just over $14,000 to complete a backup facility for central dispatch in case COVID-forced distancing measures are needed.

Speaking on the city’s web feed, controller Russ Lloyd explained that Mesker Zoo needed funding to shore up revenues lost during the pandemic.

Lloyd said, “The city has been able to work with one of the private donors to fund $460,000 which was this year’s installment payment for the penguin exhibit.”

The ordinance also finalized funding of a half million dollars in loans that will be made to small businesses affected by the pandemic.
