Boonville Bypass To Open Friday Afternoon

A ribbon-cutting at 3 p.m. Friday in Threshermans Park will mark the opening of a long-awaited road near Boonville.

Steve Law owns a car dealership on State Road 62 just west of the Boonville city limits. He sees the new Boonville Bypass when he stands in the lot of Law Chevrolet Buick.

But that’s not all he sees.

"Honestly anytime we see growth in Boonville and Warrick County as a business owner gets us really excited," he said.

The Boonville Bypass connects State Road 62 to New Harmony Road. The new road takes State Road 61 out of downtown and redirects it just west of the city.

Crews started to prepare the area for construction in 2015, but Law says people have talked about it for a lot longer.

"I’ve owned the dealership for ten years and I’ve been in the community for ten years," he said, "and I’ve heard about that road being constructed for that amount of time."

There are three roundabouts along the bypass. INDOT says these improve driver safety and the flow of traffic.
