Medical Community Encourages Those Wary of New Vaccine

Health officials are heralding the COVID-19 vaccine as the key to ending the pandemic but some are still hesitant to receive the brand new shot. Now the medical community is trying to offer encouragement.

Lauren Ladd wants everyone to get the COVID-19 vaccination. She isn’t a high ranking public health official or an immunologist, but she sees the damage done by the coronavirus every day in her work as radiologist at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital.

“I have an example of that here. We’ve got some normal lungs, nice, lots of good air in those lungs. Then this is a set of lungs that has COVID infection and you see all these areas of gray that are filled with infection…”

Ladd released a video describing her own research into the vaccine and its development. In the video she appeals to the community as more than a doctor:

“I want my four-year-old and two-year-old to hug their grandparents without worrying that my parents are going to end up sick in the hospital”

Ladd says she hopes by sharing her reasons for getting vaccinated and how she became comfortable with the brand new vaccine, that others will feel at ease too.
