Road Checks Presented; No timetable for U.S. 41 Pedestrian Overpass
Governor Eric Holcomb visited Evansville Thursday to present checks for road projects in southwest Indiana.
$99.2 million is being awarded across the state through the Community Crossings Initiative.
Mayor Lloyd Winnecke said more than $750,000 will help Evansville speed-up certain paving projects…
"Broadway from Tekoppel out to the city-county line, Bellemeade from SE 8th to Alvord, and Alvord Blvd. from Washington Avenue to the Lloyd Expressway, about 12.5 lane miles"
The money requires a 50-percent match for larger cities and counties. Smaller communities like New Harmony, Elberfeld, and Chrisney, pitch-in 25 percent.
WNIN News asked Governor Holcomb about a particular “community crossing” in Evansville – a proposed pedestrian walkway over Highway 41 at Washington Avenue.
He said Mayor Winnecke has expressed his passion for the project, but there’s no timetable yet…
"It takes time to do, not just to have the discussions but then the design. So, there's no hard, fast, stop deadline but he has received a lot of public input and has the benefit of that and he's sharing that with us right now as well."
Another round of Community Crossing applications is planned for January.
