Our 7:45 morning newscast on September 28th is a good example of the depth and quality of the news content produced by WNIN-FM during 2017. It combines breaking news, strong health reporting and the dramatic update of a year-long investigation.
Our investigation into the impact of a court expert’s confession to falsifying a report prompted action at the highest levels of the Indiana court system. Reporter Samantha Horton provided exclusive coverage of the awarding of a grant to study advance care planning, which is gaining acceptance in Southwestern Indiana.
But it is also very local, very Evansville. Among the major stories, Morning Edition local host John Gibson sprinkles news of the day stories that are important to our listeners. There is sports, traffic and weather information there as well.
WNIN-FM is a community-licensed, medium market public radio station that, in recent years, has turned outward to the community we serve. It has paid off, with significant gains in audience, revenue and recognition. That local service is combined with high quality reporting and diverse voices to create news coverage of which the community can be proud.
WNIN-FM has a staff of five full-time employees, including general manager Steve Burger. The staff hosts and operates the station while producing local news.
