(NOTE: WNIN Morning Edition host and reporter John Gibson, multi-media journalist Samantha Horton and WNIN Television producer Jason Bumm are in Lutsk, Ukraine this week as part of an exchange program sponsored by the U.S. State Department. This is the first in their series of reports from Ukraine)
A two-piece band rehearses while the announcer goes over his lines in the studio at TV Avers in Lutsk, Ukraine. They’re preparing for a live television auction to raise money for the station.
It’s an idea Avers got while visiting Evansville and WNIN on an IREX exchange program in June. After the rehearsal, director Svitlana Seika, speaking through an interpreter, talked about the project. “This is our first trial. The scenario is very busy. We will look at our rehearsal and brainstorm on what can be improved. The main thing I worry about is how active our viewers are, and how many calls we will receive.”
What’s believed to be the first auction of its kind in Ukraine goes live on Thursday.
