Fire caused heavy damage to Kight Home Center on Evansville’s East Side Thursday morning. It started about 11 a.m. and heavily damaged the Kitchen Interiors portion of the business.
Black smoke billowing from the blaze was visible for some distance. Firefighters extinguished the flames in less than an hour, but were on the scene much longer in hot, humid weather.
Evansville Fire Department investigator Richard Howard said the cause appears to be a discarded cigarette that ignited some trash. Three firefighters were treated for heat related injuries.
