CAC Files Testimony Against CenterPoint Plan

File

An advocacy group is urging regulators to reject CenterPoint Energy’s proposed rate hike.

CenterPoint is seeking permission from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to raise average monthly bills by about $23.

The rate hike would pay for a new electric generating station in Posey County; two natural gas-fired combustion turbines; and new ponds to store wastewater and coal-pile runoff.

The Citizens Action Coalition, with assistance from the group Earth Justice, has filed testimony against the plans.

In a release, the CAC said opposed what it called “two new fossil gas-fired power plants” and a new gas pipeline to be built under the Ohio River between southwest Indiana and western Kentucky.

An evidentiary hearing on CenterPoint’s request is set for Jan. 26th.

The IURC is expected to rule on the request in 2022.
