Live crowd returns for annual tree lighting

The rain held off Wednesday evening long enough for the official Evansville holiday tree lighting.

Far different than last year, when the ceremony was virtual, about a hundred spectators were on hand at the Civic Center as Mayor Lloyd Winnecke led the countdown to lighting the thirty foot Norway Spruce donated by the Allison Hamilton family.

It’s the official kickoff of the holiday season in Evansville.

The Evansville Children’s Choir added some carols to the festivities. The Christmas tree will remain on display in front of the Civic Center building through the holiday season and will be removed sometime after New Year’s Day, 2022.
