An Evansville landmark may receive some state money to help with needed restorations – if the community can raise some money first.

From classical music performances by the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra to national acts and pop culture comedians, downtown Evansville’s Victory Theatre has been bringing culture and entertainment to the tri-state since the 1920s.

The venue is on the national register of historic places but needs some help restoring its signature marquee.

Friday, Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch, an Evansville native, promised that if the Friends of the Victory organization can raise $50,000 from the community by November 15th, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority will match that amount as part of the CreatINg Places program.

The campaign would cover the cost of restoring the 100-year-old marquee, installing an LED message board and a community event to celebrate the new sign.

There is no word yet on how Friends of the Victory plan to raise the money.
