I-69 Bridge Project Clears Hurdle

File

Officials say the I-69 Ohio River Crossing is moving closer to construction after the completion of a required environmental impact study.

When the project is fully complete, the new corridor of I-69 will connect Veterans Memorial Parkway in Evansville to the existing I-69 extension in Western Kentucky. While it’s estimated the full expansion won’t be complete until 2030, work on the first section could begin in less than six months.

Section one of the corridor is completely on the Kentucky side connecting US 60 to Kentucky 425.

This part of the Ohio River Crossing project will extend I-69 in Kentucky by six miles and include improvements to Henderson interchanges.

The Kentucky Department of Transportation will oversee the work. The budget is $227 million dollars.

Section two of the project will connect US-60 north toward Veterans Memorial Parkway. This will include construction of a four lane bridge. It will be a bi-state effort and will be funded by tolls on the bridge and a combination of federal and state dollars. The proposed budget for section two is $975 million dollars. Section two construction could begin in 2025.
