Newburgh, Huntingburg Residents Named Golden Hoosiers

FSSA

Two southwest Indiana residents have won prestigious awards from the Indiana Family and Social Service Administration’s Division of Aging.

The Golden Hoosier award annually honors Hoosier senior citizens for their years of service and commitment to the state.

Paul Hughes of Newburgh Indiana is one of this year’s recipients and Huntingburg’s Phyllis Menke won the prestigious Indiana Golden Hoosier Humanitarian Award. This award recognizes an individual who seeks to promote the welfare of others.

In a release announcing the winners, Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch says seniors are a vital part of many communities since most of the work they do, they do as volunteers.

The Golden Hoosier award began in 2008 and since then has honored more than 260 senior citizens.
