The Evansville City Council passed a tax abatement for a planned expansion at Berry Plastics Monday evening.
During a presentation over the council’s web feed, Andrea Lendy with the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership said that Berry is planning a $34.2 million expansion at its downtown Evansville facility, to add thermoforming capacity to meet customer demand.
EREP recommended that Berry get an eight year business personal property tax abatement for the investment.
Lendy said, “This should allow them to add about seventy new employees by year two, with an average starting wage of $22 an hour.”
According to the presentation, even with the abatement, the project will generate over a million dollars in new tax revenue.
