Five new COVID-19 related deaths and more than 700 new infections have been announced in western Kentucky.
The Green River District Health Department recorded one new death in Henderson County, one in Union County, one in Hancock County, and two in Ohio County.
The department also tallied 766 more infections in the seven-county district from September 3rd through the 6th.
Nearly half of the new cases were in Daviess County.
In a Tuesday release, District Public Health Director Clay Horton called the new numbers “the highest incidence rates of COVID-19 we have ever seen.”
He again urged everyone who has not been vaccinated to get the shots, which he described as “safe and highly effective.”
The release showed more than half of Daviess County residents are fully vaccinated but less than 40 percent of Henderson County residents have received the vaccines and less than a third are vaccinated in Union County.
