EPD Offering "Lateral Transfers"

File

The Evansville Police Department has enacted a “lateral transfer” program for officers looking to make a change.

According to a release, EPD’s lateral transfer program would be quote “of great interest to an officer from another agency wanting to join EPD”.

Officers who have graduated from a certified police academy and pass other health and skills tests may be hired by EPD with the salary and vacation benefits equal to or greater than what they had at their previous agency. That’s rather than starting over at new-hire pay.

EPD officials say the agency will make the transfer easy and quick by offering evaluations in one day and speeding up the hiring process. There will also be financial incentives for officers who complete the one-year probationary period.

Nationwide, police departments have seen a decrease in new recruits and an increase in retirements and officer resignations. That’s according to a survey published by the Police Executive Research Forum.
