Several local schools and organizations are receiving a financial boost to encourage arts programming for children.

The Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana is investing $44,000 in the local arts community to provide students outlets for creativity and expression.

The money comes from the Arts Council's Community Arts Fund. More than a dozen local entities are receiving dollars after an application process this spring.

Recipients include the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, the Koch Family Children's Museum, the University of Evansville and at least nine area schools.
