The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation has begun the new school year with a mask mandate.
The EVSC reversed an earlier decision last week and announced that face coverings would be required in school buildings.
The reversal followed increasing COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations caused by the highly contagious delta variant.
The EVSC says the requirement will be dropped if and when the data improves.
A big chunk of EVSC students – those under 12 years old – currently can’t be vaccinated against the virus.
Meantime, a number of parents have expressed opposition to the mask requirement.
