County Settles Sexual Harassment Suit Against Prosecutor

vanderburgh.gov

Vanderburgh County Commissioners Tuesday voted to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit against Prosecutor Nicholas Hermann.

The lawsuit was filed in February of 2020 in federal court by a former employee in the prosecutor’s office, Samantha Merideth. In a statement released a year earlier in 2019, Merideth alleged that Hermann harassed and assaulted her at a business conference in Chicago in 2013. Merideth later resigned from the prosecutor’s office.

Over the county’s web feed, commission attorney David Jones offered the settlement for approval.

Jones told the commissioners, “Again, there is an absolute denial of any liability. It’s a cost of defense settlement.”

Commissioners unanimously passed the settlement. Terms and the amount of the settlement were not disclosed.

WNIN has reached out to commissioners and to Samantha Meredeth’s attorney for comment. We will update this story as that information becomes available.
