Deaconess Ranked 2nd Best Hospital in Indiana

File

A new report ranks Evansville’s Deaconess Hospital second among Indiana’s medical centers.

U.S. News and World Report chose IU Medical Center in Indianapolis as the state’s top hospital, followed by Deaconess.

The local hospital scored high in nine categories of procedures and conditions.

Ascension St. Vincent’s Indianapolis location came in third.

No Indiana facilities made the publication’s “honor roll” of the top 20 hospitals in the U.S.

Mayo Clinic in Minnesota topped that list, followed by Cleveland Clinic, and UCLA Medical Center in California.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis tied for 17th, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville rounded out the top 20.

On its website, U.S. News noted the ratings should be taken only as a “starting point.”

The publication said it might make more sense to go to an average hospital that’s closer to you or within your insurance network than a high performing hospital that isn’t.

The author cautioned all care decisions should be made in conjunction with medical professionals.
