COVID-19 infections have surged in western Kentucky, while cases and the positivity rate continue to rise in Vanderburgh County.
The Green River District Health Department added 240 new infections in the past three days – more than 100 of them in Daviess County.
In a release, the agency called the increase “alarming.”
The number of hospitalized COVID patients in the seven-county district rose to 13.
Meantime, the Indiana Department of Health recorded 22 new infections in Vanderburgh County, down from 50-plus new cases each of the past two days.
The state agency also reported the county’s seven-day positivity rate among individuals rose to more than 15 percent.
Just over 100 more local residents joined the ranks of fully vaccinated on the Friday dashboard.
The number of hospitalized COVID patients rose by five to 59 in the 12-county district of southwest Indiana.
The state agency added just two new COVID-related deaths across Indiana but nearly 800 new infections.
Officials continue to urge unvaccinated people to get the shots to protect themselves, their friends, and their family, as the virus’s delta variant spreads.
