A new outer loop will NOT be built around Owensboro anytime soon.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says on social media that a project team including the cabinet, the Owensboro Metro Planning Organization, and a consultant determined an outer loop was “not feasible at this time.”
The team said it reviewed more than 2,400 surveys, along with numerous Facebook and Twitter posts.
The team said it concluded the project shouldn’t move forward based current conditions, traffic projections, an engineering analysis, and on public comment.
The transportation cabinet says it will issue a full report on the study this fall.
The proposal called for a highway loop farther out from the city center than the current U.S. 60-Wendell Ford Expressway.
