COVID Cases Rise by 49 in Four-County Area; Vanderburgh Vaccines Up 90

File

COVID-19 infections continue to climb in the Evansville area.

The Indiana Department of Health recorded 19 new infections in Vanderburgh County, 15 in Gibson County, and a dozen in Warrick County.

Posey County saw an increase of three infections.

Vanderburgh’s COVID death toll held at 404, while just 90 more county residents became fully vaccinated. That number has recently been in triple digits.

One encouraging sign on the Thursday dashboard: the county’s seven-day positivity rate fell to just over 10 percent.

The number of hospitalized COVID patients across the 12-county region of southwest Indiana rose by two to 39.

Statewide, just one new COVID-related death was added but nearly 600 new infections were recorded.

Experts blame the virus’ delta variant for more infections and hospitalizations across the U.S.

They say the current vaccines are effective against the variant.
