A standout athlete from Dubois County could someday be playing baseball in Chicago.
The White Sox chose Southridge High School graduate Colson Montgomery in the first round of the major league draft Sunday night.
Montgomery also played football and basketball at Southridge. He capped his high school career with a Class 3A state baseball championship.
The White Sox drafted the shortstop from Holland as the 22nd overall pick.
Montgomery was invited to attend the draft event in Denver.
He wore a suit with a bow tie and thanked his family during an interview on the MLB Network.
Montgomery had committed to play baseball at IU but will likely forgo college, sign with the White Sox, and join the team’s minor league system.
