The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has declared an Air Quality Action Day in southwest Indiana for Thursday.
Bright sunshine and light winds could produce unhealthy ozone levels, so IDEM is asking residents – especially kids, older adults, and anyone with respiratory ailments -- to take precautions.
Those groups are urged to limit physical exertion outdoors.
IDEM asks everyone to reduce emissions by carpooling, walking, biking, or using public transportation.
Emissions can also be reduced by working from home, if possible.
Drivers are asked to wait until evening to refuel vehicles, avoid excess idling, and to consolidate trips.
At home, you’re urged to turn off appliances and lights when not in use and adjust your thermostat to reduce emissions from power plants.
