In Evansville this week, local children and youth with disabilities are attending the iCan Bike workshop.
Her parents like the independence and confidence that will come when she learns to ride a two wheel bicycle, but Evansville Christian School fourth grader Irelynn Brenner is at the workshop for another reason- to learn how to beat her older brother in a bike race.
“We have these scooter races and I usually want to win, so, if we race and have bike races, I want to win more, so, yeah.”
Irelynn’s father Chris says she hasn’t been able to master the two wheel bicycle, so he hopes that having trained instructors and specially equipped bikes at the workshop will work.
“She’s enjoying it. She’s tired, but she enjoys it.”
The iCan Bike program is hosted by the Easterseals Rehabilitation Center. The workshop runs through Friday at the National Guard Armory in Evansville.
