WNIN's bilingual podcast and our ambitious collaborataion with the University of Evansville on COVID-19 coverage were among the winners in regional competition.
The community is once again honored for its support of local public media.
WNIN is pleased to announce that our journalism has been recognized with seven regional Edward R. Murrow awardsin 2021. The Murrow awards are given by the Radio Television Digital News Association. The regional winners go on to national competition later this year. They are:
- Overall Excellence- For the fourth year in a row, WNIN was recognized as the top small market radio news organization in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.
- ¿Qué Pasa, Midwest?, our bilingual podcast, received honors in the Podcast and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion categories.
- Covid Between the Coasts- Our collaboration with the University of Evansville's Center for Innovation and Changeis honored in three categories- Innovation, Writing and Sports Coverage. Covid Between the Coasts is an ongoing data and reporting project that will provide historical information about the pandemic in seven Midwestern states.
- John Gibson's Morning Edition newscast on December 17, 2020 received the regional award for Excellence in Newscast. The newscast, on the day after the first coronavirus vaccinations were administered in our area included extensive original reporting by the WNIN staff.
It is noteworthy that the seven regional Murrow awards is by far a record for WNIN. Bringing that level of recognition to the commmuity for our COVID-19 coverage and bilingual journalism is an honor we are proud to provide as we recover from the pandemic.
