YMCA Seeking Proposals for Old Building

YMCA

Proposals are being sought for what to do with parts of the old YMCA building in Downtown Evansville.

Much of the historic building at Court and 6th streets is being turned into apartments.

But the Y of Southwestern Indiana has released a request for proposals on future uses of the facility's gymnasium, swimming pool, and lobby area.

In a news release, YMCA President and CEO Jonathan Pope said the organization has developed a task force of volunteers, board members, and staff to vet potential opportunities for the remaining parts of the building “to ensure that it continues to serve the community in a meaningful way."

The task force is led by Evansville Deputy Mayor Steve Schaefer, who is also a YMCA board member.

The deadline for the proposals is May 14th and can be submitted to Gina Moore at the Y.

The old YMCA building was replaced by the nearby Ascension St. Vincent Y, which opened in 2019.
