Three local teachers and one principal have been named Outstanding Educators of the Year.
In a release, the University of Evansville said each winner received a surprise announcement at their school.
Outstanding Elementary Educator of the Year went to Cathy Hoffman, fifth grade teacher at Delaware Elementary School. Hoffman has been teaching for 16 years, nine of them in her current role.
Gayle Mooney, sixth grade teacher at Scott School, was named Outstanding Middle School Educator of the Year. She’s been a teacher for 28 years, and for the last nine has taught sixth grade math and science.
Outstanding High School Educator of the Year went to Peter Barringer, English teacher at Harrison High School. Barringer has been teaching for seven years, and currently teaches English at Harrison.
And Susie Masterson of Evansville Christian School was named Outstanding Building Principal of the Year. Masterson has been an educator for 44 years. She’s in her 34th year as principal of Evansville Christian.
It was the 30th year for the awards that are sponsored by UE, the Evansville Courier and Press, and Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union.
