O'Brien Replaces Sullivan, Tomes to Run Again

File

A new state senator has been chosen for southwest Indiana and an incumbent state senator has announced he’s running for re-election.

Republican precinct committee members chose Evansville realtor Tim O’Brien to replace Holli Sullivan, who left the legislature earlier this month to become Indiana’s Secretary of State.

O’Brien is an officer in the Vanderburgh County GOP and says he will be a “fresh face of positive leadership” at the Statehouse.

O’Brien is the 15th lawmaker in the last four years sent to Indianapolis via private caucus.

Meanwhile, Indiana State Senator Jim Tomes says he’s running for re-election in 2022.

The Republican represents Senate District 49, which includes Posey County and portions of Vanderburgh and Gibson counties.

In a release, the 72-year-old Tomes said during these challenging times Hoosiers want leaders who are “effective and experienced.”

There’s no word yet of any challengers in the race.
