The University of Evansville Board of Trustees has passed the administration’s institutional realignment plan, but with one significant amendment.
On Friday, the UE board voted to adopt the realignment plan that cuts $3.8 million a year from academics, athletics and the school’s administration. The announcement was made in a release Friday.
However, the three academic majors slated for elimination under the plan, Art History, Philosophy and Religion, must first be reviewed by the UE curriculum committee and faculty senate before they can be considered for elimination.
That’s a sharp departure from board communications during the realignment process that first dismissed faculty involvement and then reversed that decision when it was pointed out that the move would violate the faculty manual, and following intense lobbying from faculty, students, alumni and the community.
The UE board’s vote to adopt the amended realignment plan was unanimous.
