Baby Box Opens in Boonville

File

A Safe Haven Baby Box has opened in Boonville.

The box installed at the fire station at 410 S. 4th Street in Boonville is the 53rd such box in Indiana.

Safe Haven is a non-profit organization founded by firefighter and medic Monica Kelsey, who was abandoned as an infant.

The boxes allow mothers to safely and anonymously surrender their newborn infants.

The Safe Haven organization also offers a national crisis hotline at 866-99BABY1.

The installation of the Baby Box at the Boonville fire station was made possible by a donation from Right to Life of Southwest Indiana.

The boxes are currently available in Indiana, Ohio, Arkansas, and Florida.
