COVID Death Toll Still Climbing Despite Fewer Infections

File

The COVID-19 death toll continues to rise even as new infections slow.

The Indiana Department of Health announced two new COVID-related deaths in Vanderburgh County, two more in Warrick County, and five new fatalities in Dubois County.

29 new infections were recorded in Vanderburgh County, while Warrick, Posey, Gibson, and Dubois counties saw just single-digit increases on the Tuesday dashboard.

The number of hospitalized COVID patients in southwest Indiana fell to its lowest level since August 8th, just 61 in the 12-county region.

Statewide, 44 more COVID-related deaths were recorded, pushing Indiana’s confirmed pandemic toll beyond 12,000. Another 425 are listed as “probable” COVID deaths.

The state added just over 700 new infections.

In western Kentucky, one new COVID fatality was reported in Ohio County, but just 31 new infections were added in the seven-county Green River District.

The department said the number of hospitalized COVID patients in the district rose by 2 to 22.
