COVID 19-related deaths have surged across southwest Indiana and western Kentucky.
The Indiana Department of Health announced a single-day record 23 fatalities in Vanderburgh County, raising the county’s toll to 236.
The Tuesday dashboard also added four deaths in Warrick County, three in Dubois, two in Gibson, two in Spencer, one in Posey, and one in Pike County.
Vanderburgh also saw another 101 COVID infections.
The number of hospitalized coronavirus patients in southwest Indiana dropped by 64, to 225 across the 12-county region.
Statewide, the agency recorded 126 new COVID-related deaths – pushing Indiana’s toll beyond 9,000.
More than 2,700 new cases were added on the Tuesday dashboard. The number of new infections has been declining across Indiana.
In western Kentucky, the Green River District Health Department announced seven more COVID-related deaths – three in Daviess County, two in McLean County, one in Union County, and one in Ohio County.
53 COVID patients were hospitalized in the seven-county district.
