The number of COVID-related deaths has jumped by nine in Vanderburgh County and by eight in Daviess County.
The Indiana State Department of Health announced Vanderburgh County’s second-highest number of COVID deaths in a single day, raising the local toll to 149.
The agency also reported 106 new infections in Vanderburgh County on its Tuesday dashboard.
No new COVID-related deaths were recorded in Warrick, Posey, or Gibson counties.
The number of COVID patients in the hospital across southwest Indiana rose to 279, with about 16 percent of intensive care beds available in the 12-county district.
Statewide, deaths surged by 124 -- raising the toll since March above 6,100. Another 301 fatalities are considered “probable” COVID deaths.
More grim news from western Kentucky, where the Green River District Health Department reported eleven new fatalities – eight of them in Daviess County and three in Ohio County.
The department also recorded 175 new COVID infections in the seven-county district.
47 COVID patients were in the hospital.
