Weather service and emergency officials briefed the public Tuesday evening on what we can expect for winter weather this year
It’s probably not going to be a white Christmas, but the rest of this winter season could be more active than usual. The reason is La Niña, the climate phenomenon that generally brings a warmer and wetter winter.
During the Facebook Live briefing, Meteorologist Rick Shanklin said La Niña years have brought tornadoes and large snowstorms to the Tri-State.
“The chances are it’s going to be a more active than usual winter. Whether it be severe weather, including tornadoes, whether it be traditional winter weather, snow, sleet, ice and certainly extreme cold and so forth.”
The briefing included historical winter weather information for our area, as well as web sites and social media accounts for weather, emergency management, road conditions and power outages. You can watch the entire briefing on the National Weather Service Paducah Facebook page.
