COVID Deaths Surge in Southwest Indiana, Western Kentucky


A staggering 23 new COVID-related deaths are reported in southwest Indiana and western Kentucky. 

The Indiana State Department of Health says Vanderburgh County’s death toll jumped by seven to 107.

Vanderburgh also saw another triple-digit increase in infections, pushing the total since March beyond 8,500.

Two more COVID–related fatalities were added in Warrick County and one in Gibson County.

The number of hospitalized COVID patients in southwest Indiana rose to 234, with about 18 percent of intensive care beds available in the 12-county district.

Statewide, the agency reported a big jump in COVID-related deaths – 84.

More than 5,500 new infections were added in the Hoosier State, with the seven-day positivity rate up to 12 percent.

In western Kentucky, the Green River District Health Department recorded 13 new fatalities, five of them in Daviess County and one in Henderson County.

The seven-county district also set a single-day record for new infections: 214.

The Green River District’s COVID death toll rose to 122.
