The COVID death toll continues to climb in Vanderburgh and Gibson counties.
The Indiana State Department of Health announced three new fatalities in Vanderburgh County, raising the county’s toll to 98.
New infections also continued to soar -- up 149 to more than 7,900 since March.
The state agency added the 18th COVID-related death in Gibson County, which saw a jump of 61 new cases in the Friday report.
No new deaths were reported in Warrick or Posey counties.
The number of hospitalized COVID patients in southwest Indiana stood at 218, with only 15 percent of intensive care beds available in the 12-county region.
Statewide, the agency recorded 50 new fatalities and more than 5,700 new infections.
The state’s seven-day positivity rate was 10.6 percent.
The Green River District Health Department reported 156 new infections in its seven-county region, with one COVID-related death in Ohio County.
The district has seen 108 COVID-related deaths since March.
